Seaview Commemorations of the 80th Anniversary of D-Day
On the evening of Thursday 6th June 2024, the 80th anniversary of D-Day, Canon Howard Barker led a service of commemoration in St Peter's church garden at which Lt Col Justin Potter laid the wreath. The evening continued with the lighting of a beacon outside the Old Fort by Major General Sir Martin White, former Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight.
Our curate, Revd Bevaly Rackett, led our service on Sunday, 9th June, which included an Act of Remembrance in which Sir Martin White laid the wreath. We were grateful to our standard bearer, Chris Ball, for his part in the service. Tim Parkin played the last post and Dr Kieran Cooney brought the service to a conclusion with a moving piper’s lament.
