More than a quarter of all marriages in England between a man and a woman take place in the traditional setting of the Church of England.

You may marry in your local parish church, but you can also marry in a church in a parish away from where you live if it has special significance for you, provided that one of you:

- has at some time lived in the parish for a period of at least six months, or
- was baptized in the parish, or
- was prepared for confirmation in the parish, or
- has at any time regularly attended normal Church of England services in the parish for a period of at least six months,
or
that one of your parents at any time since you were born:
- has lived in the parish for a period of at least six months, or
- has regularly attended normal Church of England services in the parish for a period of at least six months,
or
that one of your parents or grandparents:
- was married in the parish,
provided any relevant baptism, confirmation or marriage was performed in accordance with the rites of the Church of England.

If you are not certain whether a particular address is within one of the parishes of The Haven Churches, please consult the maps that show our parish boundaries.

If St Peter's, Seaview, St Helen's, St Mary the Virgin, Brading or St John the Baptist, Yaverland is your local parish church, or you have one or more of the above connections with any of our churches, we would love to hear from you to discuss your marriage plans.
