20th Anniversary Service for Revd Barry Downer
On the evening of Saturday 1st October 2022 there was a Celebratory Eucharist at St Mary's, Brading to mark the 20th anniversary of the Revd Barry Downer's Ordination as Deacon on 28th September 2002.
The sermon was preached by the Revd Dr Trevor Reader who was the Diocesan Director of Non-Stipendiary Ministry at the time of Barry's ordination as Deacon and subsequently served as Archdeacon of the Isle of Wight.
The congregation broke into spontaneous applause at the conclusion of the service when a token of appreciation for Barry's ministry was presented to him by Nigel Elton Walters, the Church Warden of St Mary's, and the evening concluded with an informal gathering over refreshments in the church hall.
