An Advent Course & All Souls Service

Advent Course

We will be starting an Advent Course based on the book How Rural Churches Thrive which is available on line at £9.99. This is an easy to read and practical book that is applicable to all churches in our Haven Benefice, providing encouragement and challenging us as we prepare for our future as a Benefice. It will run each Wednesday evening in Brading Church Hall between 6pm and 7.30pm starting on Wednesday 9th November.

All Souls Service

The service of All Souls, when we remember our departed loved ones, will be held at 4.00pm on Sunday 30th October in St Peter’s Church Seaview. There will be clip boards in St Peter’s Church, St Helen’s Church and St Catherine’s Chapel where the names of your loved ones can be written down and will then be read out at this service. Everyone is very welcome to attend..

What's On

St Mary’s Church: Sandown and Shanklin Military Band will be playing at St Mary's on Sunday 16th October at 3 pm. Volunteers are needed to make cakes and/or serve teas and coffees at the end of the concert.

The Harvest Lunch at St Peters was a happy occasion raising £556.50 towards church roof repairs. Thanks to all who made this happen from decorating the room, donating food & bringing raffle prizes to cooking, entertaining us, washing up and clearing the hall. This was a team effort that is very much appreciated by all who came along.

Christmas is Coming! This year we have two Christmas Cards by Liz Fletcher for sale with all proceeds going in aid of St Peter’s Church.

Please order your cards as soon as possible so that we can print enough for all.

Quiz Night in St Mary’s church hall starting at 7.00pm on 4th November.

Brading Community Choir is making a return visit on 5th November to sing at St Mary's Saturday morning Open Cafe. We will be serving teas, coffee and, more importantly, cakes!!! We will be there from 10.30am until 1.00pm - please make a date in your diary.

St Peter’s Coffee mornings: If you enjoyed the friendship at our recent Harvest Lunch why not try joining us for our regular monthly coffee mornings. Enjoy tea or coffee with friends, and try your luck at the raffle and tombola, and treat yourself to home made cakes and other goodies.
Our next coffee morning is on Saturday 15th October from 10 to 12, with the raffle being drawn at 11.45.

Knit and Natter: The Mothers’ Union Knit and Natter group will be meeting on Monday 10th October at 2.15pm in the Undercroft of St Peters Church. Access is from Steyne Road and is on the level.
Refreshments will be served and this is open to anyone who wishes to attend to knit, sew, craft or simply have a good chat.

The monthly Mothers’ Union Service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday 13th October in the Lady Chapel of St Peter’s Church.
Everyone is welcome to attend this short, informal service (which does not include communion).

St Mary’s Church, Brading: A church cleaning work party starts at 10:00 am on Saturday 19th November.
Any help welcome.

Do you get a copy of ‘What’s On’, the magazine for news and events in Brading, Nettlestone, St Helens, Seaview and Yaverland? If not, why not try a copy as the October issue is now available, price 60p, from the back of each church. If you live in the benefice you can, for a modest charge, receive the magazine every month delivered to your door - see page 2 of this month’s edition for details.

Journey's End: R.C. Sherriff’s anti-war classic is an amazing play. The IoW-based professional theatre company Theatre Reviva! is touring its new immersive, gripping, theatre production in November this year and will be at the Apollo, Pyle Street, Newport from 1st to 5th November. Tickets now on sale Tel:(01983) 210010 or search www.apollo-theatre.org.uk.

Deadline for items to be included in the Pew Sheets is 4pm on Thursday to allow for compilation, printing and distribution.
