A special service marking the death of Her Majesty the Queen was held in Newport Minster at 6 pm on Sunday 18th September, when Islanders were invited to pay their respects to the late monarch.

The service, which took place on the eve of the State Funeral, reflected upon the life and work of the Queen and included prayers for both her and the Royal Family.

It was led by the Acting Archdeacon of the Isle of Wight, Rev Allie Kerr, and hosted invited local dignitaries, including the Island’s Lord Lieutenant Susie Sheldon.

Please click here to view a recording of the service posted on the Minster's YouTube channel.

Benefice Book Group

All are welcome to the next meeting of the Benefice Book Group on Wednesday 28 September at 7.30pm in St Mary's church hall to discuss Black Sheep and Prodigals by Dave Tomlinson. This is a short, accessible and provocative book attacking what the author calls ‘black and white religion’. Do get a copy and come along to share your thoughts. Further info from Catherine on 07940 826034 or Andrew 07503 200630.

Harvest Lunch

St Peter’s church is organising a Harvest Lunch in the church hall on Saturday 1 October, which will be a tasty ploughman’s lunch followed by a pudding. We are hoping to have some sort of entertainment. Do we have any performers who would like to share their talents? All welcome of course. £5.00 per head. BYOB. All proceeds to the church roof repair fund. RSVP for catering numbers appreciated. 07940 503971

Please bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Food Bank.

Ride & Stride

Those taking part in last Saturday's pilgrimage around the Benefice have so far raised almost £250 for the Hampshire and the Islands Historic Churches Trust. They would like to thank all who supported them, particularly those who provided refreshments at the four churches, and especially those who baked for the occasion.

Sandown and Shanklin Military Band

Sandown and Shanklin Military Band will be playing at St Mary's on Sunday 16th October at 3pm.
Volunteers are needed to make cakes and/or serve teas and coffees at the end of the concert.

Deadline for items to be included in the Pew Sheets is 4pm on Thursday to allow for compilation, printing and distribution.
Please send to Andrew Thomson at colleenaluinn(at)aol(dot)com.
