Christian Aid Appeal - Turkey and Syria

Christian Aid has contacted churches asking them to implement three requests in response to the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria:

Pray: Join in prayer for those whose lives have been devastated and for those providing emergency relief.

Act: People are facing crisis on crisis and you can find more information about the emergency on the Christian Aid website.

Give: Christian Aid is already working with its partners to provide winter kits to people seeking shelter. Please hold a church collection, together we can help people in need rebuild their lives.

From the Christian Aid Website

On Monday 6 February, an initial magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit in southern Turkey close to the border with northern Syria. A second 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck 9 hours later, with aftershocks following.

Many thousands of men, women and children have died or are injured in the aftermath of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

It is not too late to save lives. Christian Aid is already working with partners in Northwest Syria to provide winter kits to people seeking shelter. These kits include plastic sheeting, mattresses, blankets, and heating materials. Please hold church collections, together we can help people in need rebuild their lives.

Every prayer, every gift, every action brings hope to people hit by disaster.

How our churches are responding to this appeal

A collection was made at St Helen’s church,
The collection at St Mary’s church raised £300 which has already been forwarded to Christian Aid - a great big thank you to all for your generous support to this appeal.
St Peter’s church will have a retiring collection after the service on Sunday 5th March. This is advance notice so please come prepared on the day.

We should remember that the past week has seen further aftershocks and the collapse of already damaged and unstable buildings, adding to the devastation, deaths and injuries so please give generously.

Church Notices

St Helen’s Eco Church:you are very welcome to join us at 3.30pm this Sunday, 26th February. We’ll start, as usual, with tea and prayers, and this time we’re having a ‘hands on’ session making bat, bird and squirrel boxes for the churchyard. We are very grateful to Paul Jackson, who has been busy preparing kits for us to put together from recycled wood pieces. Whether you’re a regular at Eco Church, or this will be your first time, you are very welcome. As usual we’ll finish with a bring and share supper together.
