Sunday 2nd April - Palm SundaySt Peter’s Church: starting at 10:30am in Sophie Weston Gardens - after Blessing of the Palms and the Gospel reading, we proceed to the church (symbolising Jesus setting out for Jerusalem).
A hymn is sung as we enter the church and after the reading of the Collect for the day, there will be an introduction to a dramatised reading of the Passion according to Matthew.
A silent period of reflection follows before we resume our worship as we take part in the Eucharist. St Mary's Church: after the morning service the congregation is invited to gather with members of the Methodist Church in Brading for a procession through the town with a donkey. 6 pm on Thursday 6th April - Maundy ThursdayA Maundy Thursday Service will take place in St Mary's Church. Good Friday - 6 pm 7th AprilThe Way of the Cross: reflective Passiontide sequence of words, hymns and music led by the Events Choir in St Peter’s Church. 8 am on Sunday 9th April (Easter Sunday)Easter breakfast will be available in St Mary’s Church Hall prior to the start of the service. Please book with Nigel Elton-Waters so we know how many we need to cater for. Easter Lilies at St Peter’s ChurchAs Lent comes to a close, flowers will return to St Peter’s Church with a display of Easter-lilies. If you wish to make a donation of £3 for a stem in memory of a loved one, please sign the sheet at the back of church. Can you help? We need bottles, lots of bottles!St Helen’s Church will be having a stall at the May Fayre in Seaview on May 1st with a Bottle Tombola fundraising to convert the shed in the grounds of the Vicarage into a hub for children to use when doing activities in the churchyard.
If you could give some bottles to help us, then we would be very grateful.
The bottles can be filled with anything that is in date and unused from Champagne, whisky, ketchup, water, wine, body lotion, perfume, to vinegar …. the list is endless.
Bottles can be left at the back of St Helen’s Church, given to Rose Gillett or collected if you ring 01983 612440 and leave a message. Easter Egg Hunt Monday 10th April 12.00noon to 2.00 pmWeather permitting, meet in St Mary’s Church, Brading and follow the trail collecting clues along the way for prizes from the Easter Bunny. Entry is free and all are welcome. St Mary's Bell Tower 11am – 3pm on Monday 10th AprilWe have a tower open day to coincide with the Easter Egg Hunt and there will be ringing demonstrations and information about the restoration project. Food Bank Collection VenuesDid you give up something for Lent? If you gave up chocolates, sweets or coffee, did you donate what you might have normally had to a food bank? If you didn’t, it’s not too late to send something along!! St Mary’s Church continues as a collection point for tinned foods, toiletries and other essentials for those in need of aid in these difficult times. Please place your donations at the back of the church. St Peter's Church: Food bank baskets for non-perishable food are also situated at the back of the church, The Orange Tree in Madeira Road and Penforma on the corner of Bluett Avenue and Salterns all in Seaview. St Peter’s Church has sold all its £5 Easter Eggs - our thanks to all who supported this initiative, and that of sending 30 small Easter Eggs with the Easter Story as a gift to a Trussell Trust Food Bank for delivery to families.
The Church has also purchased a quantity of eggs that will be distributed to families at St Mary’s and St Peter’s at the Easter Sunday services and we would be very grateful for voluntary contributions towards the cost of both of these initiatives. Annual Parochial Church MeetingsThe Annual Parochial Church Meeting for St Mary’s, Brading will be held after church on Sunday 16th April. The Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) for St Peter’s, Seaview will be held after the service on Sunday 16th April as part of a bring and share lunch. There will be vacancies to fill at the APCM . Anyone willing to join the PCC will be very welcome on condition that you are a regular worshipper in the church and are on the Electoral Roll. Application Forms for the Electoral Roll are available at the back of the church and Sylvia Beardsmore is our Electoral Roll Officer. The Annual Parochial Church Meeting for St Helen's will be held after the morning service on Sunday 23rd April ie at 10:45am. |
