Phoenix Choir

The amazing Phoenix Choir put on a wonderful performance in aid of the Kids' Shed appeal at St Helen's Church last Saturday. The audience of around 90 was treated to a varied programme of much-loved music from the last 100 years, performed superbly by the choir under the leadership of their musical director, Robin Burnett. THANK YOU to everyone who supported the event, which raised over £950 for an excellent cause.

Wildlife Count

St Helen's Eco Church invites you to their Wildlife Count in the Churchyard this afternoon from 2.00 - 4.00pm. As well as providing an opportunity to explore the wildlife, there will be family activities; identification and recording expertise from the ‘iwatchwildlife’ team; and of course refreshments! Just turn up - you will be made very welcome.

St Mary’s Open Café

There will be joint open café with the charity Ability Dogs 4 Young People in the church hall on Saturday 17th June from 10:30am until 1.00pm. Do come and meet some of the dogs who are in training.

St Peter’s Coffee Mornings

St Peter’s Church holds a coffee morning in the hall from 10.00am to 12.00 noon on the third Saturday of each month, with stalls, a tombola and a raffle. Everyone is made very welcome and the next coffee morning is on Saturday 17th June between 10.00am and 12.00noon.

Isle of Wight Pilgrimages - IoW Walking Church

Corinne Smith and Rosie Deedes are offering two pilgrimage days next week and invite you to bring a picnic to each event.

The first pilgrimage will be on Tuesday 6th June, starting at 10.00am at Sandown pier and walking approximately 12 miles to Seaview. People can peel off and get a bus to wherever they wish to go if they don’t want to walk the whole way.

On Wednesday 7th June, we will meet at Seaview church at 10.00am for a walk to East Cowes, again a distance of around 12 miles. Alternatively you may walk as far as you want.

Corinne and Rosie hope to carry on round the Island in stages over the next few months.

Sally Rivlin has offered St Peter’s hospitality on both days: Tuesday in the afternoon at about 3 pm when they arrive at St Peter’s and on Wednesday before the pilgrims set off at 10 am. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could assist Sally on either day.

St Peter’s Family Services

Although August may seem a long way off, it will soon be here and St Peter’s are hoping to hold two family services on 13th and 27th. In order to do so safely we need a minimum of three volunteers for each service. If you would be willing to help with this please contact Sylvia on 01983 612600 and we will arrange a planning meeting.

St Peter’s Church

St Peter’s Undercroft provides an attractive space for meetings. It features a modern kitchen and sunny courtyard and benefits from level access from the street. Bookings & viewings are welcome, please contact Sylvia Beardsmore on 01983 612600.

Don’t Mow in May

Photograph of St Peter's Garden during 'No Mow May'

St Peter’s Church put up notices to inform the public after adopting this environmentally friendly practice to enable wild flowers to freely grow in the church garden, providing a feast for pollinators whilst tackling pollution and locking away carbon below ground. The uncut lawn became full of daisies, buttercups, cow parsley, wild garlic, white bells, clover and dandelion along with several varieties of tall grasses. We will now keep the grass short and people are welcome to sit in the garden for quiet contemplation or to enjoy a picnic or sit in the sun whilst waiting for the service to start.
