Supporting our local Food Banks

Both St Mary’s and St Peter’s Churches collect tinned foods, toiletries and other essentials in the boxes at the back of the churches.

The Community Fridge food waste Project is now up and running in St Helens Community Centre! Help prevent food from going in the bin, by visiting the foyer and taking what you can use. You can follow us on the St Helens Community Fridge Facebook page.

Mince Pies: Prison Chaplain Judith Swaine has asked for donations of mince pies for the Christmas carol services at Albany Prison (12th December) and Parkhurst Prison (19th December). Pies must be in sealed commercial packets with long enough ‘best before’ dates and can be left at the back of the churches.

The Farewell service for Revd Barry Downer will be held at St John the Baptist, Yaverland on Sunday 26th November starting at 11.00am Everyone is welcome to this Benefice Sung Eucharist and Parking is available next door at Yaverland Farm. Light refreshments will be served after the service.

St Mary's Christmas Tree Festival takes place Friday 1st - Sunday 3rd December and includes a free Advent Concert on the Friday starting with a peal of bells at 6.50pm, to include Brading Choir, Wight Ukers, Scottish Fiddlers and Organ Fugue with mulled wine and mince pies available in the interval, a Craft Fair on Saturday 2nd December starting at 10.00am and a ‘Lights of Love’ Service for the Mountbatten on the Sunday starting at 3.00pm with refreshments to follow.

St Peter’s is also holding a 'Light’s of Love' Service on Friday 1st December at 6.00pm when there will also be late night shopping in the village.

The Brading Community Nativity takes place on Sunday 10th December starting at 4.00pm at Brading Station. Along with the Methodist Church (and hopefully Gary the Donkey!) we will journey around Brading following the real story of Christmas. Please bring a torch (no candles) and dress up as an angel or shepherd if you like. There will be refreshments in our church hall afterwards. If you can volunteer as a marshal or with refreshments please see Rev Bevaly.

St Helen’s Village of Angels display is during December in aid of the school. Collect entry forms from the school, post office or Vine Inn by 24th November.

The Memorial service for June Mitchell is being held at St Mary's Brading on Monday 20th November at 12.00noon with refreshments in the hall afterwards. All are welcome. The Brading Bells will be ringing in her memory from 11.15am, and June requested that everyone wears bright colours (not black).
