Both St Mary’s and St Peter’s collect tinned foods, toiletries and other essentials for the Food bank.
St Helen's Community Fridge food waste Project is open: visit the Community Centre and take what you can use to prevent food from going in the bin, plus follow them on the St Helens Community Fridge Facebook page.
Prison Chaplain Judith Swaine has asked for donations of mince pies (in sealed commercial packets with long ‘best before’ dates) for the Christmas carol services at Albany Prison (12th December) and Parkhurst Prison (19th December). Boxes of pies will be collected from the back of the churches.
Eco Church meets this afternoon (Sunday 26th) in St Helen's Church, making decorations for a tree for the St Mary's tree festival. Starting with worship at 3.30pm and ending with a bring and share meal, all are VERY welcome.
St Mary's Christmas Tree Festival takes place on Friday 1st - Sunday 3rd December and includes a free Advent Concert on the Friday starting with a peal of bells at 6.50pm, to include Brading Choir, Wight Ukers, Scottish Fiddlers and Organ Fugue with mulled wine and mince pies available in the interval; a Craft Fair on Saturday 2nd December in the church from 10.00am and a ‘Lights of Love’ Service for the Mountbatten on Sunday 3rd December starting at 3.00pm with refreshments to follow.
St Peter’s 'Light’s of Love' Service is on Friday 1st December at 6.00pm outside in the church garden (by the tree) so wrap up suitably warmly!
The Brading Community Nativity starts at 4.00pm on Sunday 10th December at Brading Station. Along with the Methodist Church (and hopefully Gary the Donkey!) we will journey around Brading following the real story of Christmas. Please bring a torch (no candles) and dress up as an angel or shepherd if you like. It finishes with refreshments in St Mary’s church hall. If you can help please see Rev Bevaly.
St Helen’s Village of Angels display is on during December in aid of the school.
Today (26th December) is Barry’s last Sunday service before retirement. We all want to say a very heartfelt thank you for all that he has done for the Haven Benefice and wish him well with whatever he chooses to do next. (God doesn’t really go in for ‘retirement’ so we look forward to seeing him around the Island in the future after a suitable time of well-deserved rest!)
A non-religious vigil for peace will be held in St Peter’s church Undercroft (entrance in Steyne Rd) on Saturday 2nd December from 10.00am - 11.00am. All are welcome to join us for this time of reflection.
